Here is a floor plan of the Fab Lab. The main entrance is at 870 S. Capitol street, although we also have three entrances on Benton. They don’t work unless you are a member and have the right access.

If you have any quality, working, good tools we are always happy to get donations and will put them to good use for our community. As a member, you would still be able to use them too! Win-win!

Our Lab has laser cutters/engravers, a full computer lab, 3D printing, VR & Electronics, a Woodworking Shop, Ceramics Studio, Stained Glass, Community Spaces, and Studios available for rent.

Like any good workshop, our community non-profit is always growing and renovating. Members are constantly pitching in to spruce up and build out. If you’ve got the skills, desire or motivation to make something, then come join us!

Lasers, pew-pew! These are no mere toys. We have a 60 watt laser with an 18″x27″ bed, and a 150 watt laser with a 3’x5′ bed. Cut through fabric, wood, plexiglass, and more! Etch into metals, glass, and ceramics! Similar lasers cost $1/minute to use, but these are open to all members!

The computer lab is connected through ImOn fiberoptic--the fastest speeds in Iowa City! Feel free to sit down at any of our 10 Windows computers or grab a Linux laptop for some Hackerspace fun!

Our kitchenette is located mid-lab where members share the fridge, microwave, and water-cooler.

There's also a tablesaw, bandsaw, router table, chop saw, drill press, lathe, and more. And we have a large assortment of jigs and supports.

The glass studio has grinders, cutters, etching supplies and more! Stainded-glass, fused-glass, or build a picture frame. Seriously--check out the size of that mat cutter!

Our classroom is an open area that can be used to teach, work on large group projects, or have 80’s-style break-dance-face-offs.

Our shared studio is rentable to any member. Perfect for personal projects and storage, each cubby is $50 per month.

Our private studios come with a 24/7 membership! They each have lockable doors and full-spectrum lighting. Each one is different; some smaller, some larger. Perfect for larger projects, art study, design startups or prototyping.
